A participatory project with Barnardo’s Fostering and Adoption NI and SARC: Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Sound and Music, Queen’s University Belfast
The team from SARC has been working with Barnardos NI and participating families, to create an immersive experience that combines sound, 360º video and a three channel 24 minute film, to tell foster and adoption stories from a first person perspective. Exploring the everyday, the places and experiences of families, this participatory artwork provides a unique insight into what it is like to be part of a family who foster or adopt in Northern Ireland.
Created by Pedro Rebelo with Georgios Varoutsos, Andrew Finnerty, Brian Byrne and Vanessa Haynes.
The work was first exhibited as a three channel video installation with 4 short 360º video pieces on VR goggles. The 360º depict locations from each family home and feature excerpts from interviews with foster parents. The work was first shown at Belfast Book Festival 2023 at the Crescent Art Centre Studio.
